!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Odd to find that long before I suggested that something else should be built on the Volt platform before shutting down Lordstown, OH, they had a crossover concept for the 1st gen Volt back in 2010! Could have competed with Toyota and Kia but, per usual, short sightedness and poor choices are SOP for GM.

GM is so weird when making any sort of decisions

IKR? Something dawned on me the other day that I’m surprised that I didn’t realize in hindsight: the 2nd and 3rd gen Caddy V cars should have been more subtle visually instead of in your face hot rods.
Why?
Because FCA was (and is) already doing it better and cheaper with SRT Dodge Chargers and Challengers, and to a lesser extent, Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Guillia ( or even the bastardized Maseratis).

It's mentioned in the article

Yeah, that would have made a lot of sense.

What they should definitely do is build another H2. That is definitely what the world needs right now. Probably diesel so we can roll coal like bosses

Yeah, I agree.
At least they could have revived it when the Prius V came out. Or made it into a SUV looking cross over.

T echnically this is still a live in China and lives on as the Velite 6 and Chevy Menlo, but both as pure electric cars.
I bet it’s one of those “focus group” BS that North American divisions of car makers again, going on and on about how this looks like a minivan and nobody will buy it. W hereas in China, the Orlando lived on and they have a Buick version as well, the GL6.

Or the USA

And just when I thought they couldn't be dumber....

Well, Hummer is coming back as electric so it shouldn't be too hard for them to chuck a turbo diesel in as well.

The Prius C was a big seller but I suspect many Americans wish they had a different option that was bigger. This would have been a game changer. Typical GM.

Yup... a CUV version of the Volt would have been a good idea.
And applying the tech to a pickup truck and a van would have been good ideas as well.
GM should have made all sorts of vehicles off that platform like Chrysler did with the K car.

It amazes me how they were making money hand over fist with trucks and SUVs but then simultaneously shocked when their hybrid and electric cars sold poorly. It would be like if FCA reintroduced the Dart as under the Jeep brand and then wondered why it didn’t sell. GM is shockingly bad in their decision making
![]() 06/25/2020 at 13:14 |

Fun fact: the Dart, Fiat 500x, and Chrysler 200, were all built on the same platform as the current (and last man standing?) Jeep Cherokee.
Kinda makes you think that GM keeps trying to reinvent the wheel

See GM wouldn’t turn the Dart into the Cherokee for Jeep, they’d slap a J eep badge on the D art and kick it out the door lol. At least FCA knew to turn it into an SUV

volt uses the d2xx chassis, same as cruze and equinox.
A problem is nesting the t shapped battery into a location that works on the cruz platform, for a van which would eliminate a 3rd row.
Also with a larger vehicle the battery would have to get much larger to have an adequate range. a problem with plug in hybrids from a packaging is it takes all the negatives from a gas car, and electric car in one.

the volt was really a stopgap between gas to electric. Overall I love the volt but there are limiations with plug in hybrids as they take the worst packagng features of gas and electric cars. engine up front, heavy battery somewhere . Its why its easier to just make 2 seperate chassis.
